Oreo Ball Pumpkins

About a month ago (I think) I finally gave Bakerella's cupcake pops a try. Sadly, I thought they tasted disgusting and so did my entire family. But they were all so incredibly cute that I decided I had to find another way to do the same type of idea.

One of our favorite homemade candies that we make at Christmas time is called Oreo Balls. Here is the recipe:

OREO BALLS
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
4 cups crushed Oreo® cookies
2 cups chocolate baking chips
1 tbsp. shortening

Directions:
On high speed of an electric mixer, beat cream cheese until light and fluffy. Add cookies and beat until well combined. Refrigerate 2 hours until chilled enough to roll. Roll dough into 1" ball. Over double boiler, melt chips and shortening until smooth. Dip balls into mixture and thoroughly coat. Place on wax paper to harden. Store in refrigerator.

So I decided to make the oreo ball as the 'cupcake' part and then do the dipping and decorating. For these pumpkins I just used the orange candy melts and an edible black marker- I had to order those but I am pretty sure they will come in handy.
These turned out so incredibly cute AND they taste really, really, really good!

Buckeyes (aka peanut butter balls)

Every year around Christmas time my mom would start making candy. Then we would put together trays and go caroling as a family to deliver them. One candy she made that I absolutely adored (wait, I think I adored all of them...) was the buckeyes.
The tradition continues!

Buckeyes-

1 c. butter- softened

1 c. peanut butter

Powdered sugar

1 c. chocolate chips

1 T shortening

Mix together until it forms a stiff dough. Shape into 1" balls and freeze.

Melt chocolate chips and shortening in a double boiler and dip balls into chocolate. Cool in fridge.

We found this recipe a few years ago and it is a must have during the holiday season. The kids love to the kids love to help roll and dip them too.
